The third workshop on the basics of network forensics

During the last two weeks, in cooperation of the National CERT and the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia, the third workshop was organised in CARNet head office in Zagreb on the subject of the basics of network forensics.

The incentive for organising the new workshop was fast progress and constant change of Internet communication technologies and services and it represented a continuation of education and cooperation of the National CERT and the Ministry of the Interior which started in 2009.

This year's workshop also enjoyed a large interest and was therefore organised in two separate terms. The spectrum of topics was very extensive, so that the attendants acquired a wide knowledge of modern communication and computing technologies. The topics mostly included communication via the Internet and their subsequent in-depth analysis.

The classes and practice were held in a modern network technologies classroom, located at CARNet head office, where the attendants could try and study what they had learnt on the classes. A lot of practical work with a theoretical base of lectures ensured coursework reinforcement and independent application in future work. At the end of the mentioned workshops the attendants acquired knowledge which would enable them to be more successful and faster in solving of cases related to the abuse of the Internet and related technologies, for which they received corresponding diplomas.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the National CERT was established in 2008 based on the Information Security Act, as a national body for prevention and protection from computer safety threats to public information systems in the Republic of Croatia, and it was organised as a separate organisational unit within the Croatian Academic and Research Network - CARNet.
