11 New and Free Online ECDL Courses for School Children, School Teachers and Students

New online ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) courses were presented today, on 19 December 2014, by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNet, Croatian Regulatory Agency for Network Activities (HAKOM), Public Open College Algebra, Croatian Information Technology Society (HIZ) and the Ministry of Administration.

During the course of 2014, 11 new ECDL online courses were developed based on the renewed curriculum of ECDL modules: Computer Essentials, Online Essentials, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Presentation, Using Databases, Web Editing, Image Editing, Project Planning, IT Security and Online Collaboration.

Based on the project proposal by the Croatian Academic and Research Network, development of the courses was financed by HAKOM as part of the public tender under the title "Ideas for Development of Software Applications and Services to Promote and Standardise Development of Broadband Networks in the Areas of Special State Concern, Highland Areas and Insular Areas", and courses were developed by the Public Open College Algebra. As the exclusive national designated authority for the ECDL licence, the Croatian Information Technology Society (HIZ) is responsible for the verification of prepared materials.

Project results will also directly contribute to the activities related to Digital Growth Strategy of the Republic of Croatia, being prepared by the Ministry of Administration, which will also include digital competences of state and public servants.

At the media conference held on this occasion, speeches were held by Mr. Vedran Mornar, the Minister of Science, Education and Sports, Mr. Zvonimir StaniŠ, CARNet Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Leda Lepri, Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Administration, Mr. Mario Weber, Executive Director of the Croatian Regulatory Agency for Network Activities (HAKOM), Mr. Marijan FrkoviŠ, President of the Croatian Information Technology Society, and Mr. Tomislav DominkoviŠ, President of the Algebra Group Management Board.
