Announcement of the 12th CARNet Users Conference – CUC 2010 Programme

Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNet, published the programme of the 12th CARNet Users Conference to be held from 15th to 17th November at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture of the University of Split.

Entitled "New Challenges", the programme will offer three lectures, 14 workshops, two round tables, 11 presentations, a film, a panel discussion and 62 papers divided into five thematic units: From garage to success, Internet (dis)connecting people, Social networks and education, Integration of the Internet, Open source.

Continuing the tradition, CUC again offers its participants a chance to hear some of the most respectable experts in the field of information communication technologies. Three international experts will give lecture and thus enrich the programme of this year's CUC.

The President of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, will talk about the influence of ICT on development of economy, society and education in developing countries. Hannes Lubich, Full Professor at the University of Applied Sciences of Northwestern Switzerland will give lecture on social networking, and Wilfried Grommen, Microsoft General Manager and regional technology officer for Central and Eastern Europe will talk about "Cloud Computing".

CUC will also introduce Fight Club, the fifth from the series of discussions organised by the Croatian Association of Web Developers – CROWD, and one closed event on the topic of cloud computing. Since we also wish to raise environmental awareness in our participants, this year's CUC brings the premiere of "The Age of Stupid" by Fanny Armstrong.

This year's CUC will also present the project entitled "e-Split", during which CARNet's optical network was built in the City of Split, connecting all CARNet member institution. The project will be presented within the Conference opening ceremony, with the Croatian President, Prof. Ivo Josipović, Ph.D. opening the Conference.
The Conference is traditionally accompanied by Webfestival - a competition of web contents authors. The topic of this year's – eleventh – Webfestival is Moodle, a learning management system.

CUC 2010 also includes a CMS competition entitled "Spruce up the web". The competition is intended for all primary and secondary schools in the Republic of Croatia which create and manage their school websites by using CARNet CMS system.
