The ELA team participated at the 2nd meeting of the eVET READY project in Ljubljana

The second meeting of the international team composed of seven institutions from six European countries, including Croatia which was represented by CARNet, was held in Ljubljana on 12 and 13 April 2012. The meeting was attended by 21 representatives of partner institutions of which the majority had already met at the project's opening session held in November last year in Zagreb.

Primary objective of the eVET READY project is to develop a self-evaluation tool for vocational schools which would enable vocational schools and their teachers to measure their readiness for systematic implementation of e-learning.

Specific self-evaluation objectives were discussed at the meeting in a real working atmosphere. A special concern was how to define the readiness of vocational institutions for e-learning, covered in English by quite a convenient phrase - "eVET readiness".

At the Zagreb meeting we had already determined the four most important categories within which to measure eVET readiness (technology, organisation, pedagogy, cooperation), and in Ljubljana eVET readiness was defined in working form exactly through these four categories, as follows:

  • Organization – VET organization/school is organizationaly eVET ready (for e-learning) when it is open to project and ideas (such as sharing), convinced of the added value of e-learning in VET, ready to share, has e-learning friendly environment and has no fear for experiments and sharing;

  • Technology – VET organization/school is eVET ready when it ensures comfortable use of technology for all parties involved;

  • Cooperation – VET organization/school is eVET ready if it cooperates with all of its stakeholders (individuals, partners’ schools, labor market), it uses ICT to share information with stakeholders (e.g. web sites, social network …), it uses ICT to communicate with its stakeholders (e.g. about learning technics, students, internships, technology…), it uses ICT to facilitate learning (e.g. giving tasks, seminaries, tasks, exams… )

  • Pedagogy – VET organization/school is eVET ready when it takes advantage of ICT’s afford to achieve more (VET goals, goals that could not be accomplished without ICT) than in f2f environment, including bringing ICT from the workplace to the classroom.

Apart from the CARNet E-Learning Academy team, the meeting was also attended by CARNet's project partner Ratko Medan, teacher at the Zagreb Geodetic Technical School, whose practical insight from the position of a teacher at a vocational school excellently contributed to the accomplishment of goals of the meeting and the expansion of approaches of the project through Croatian experiences and needs.
