eLektire - New Appearance and New Contents

CARNet's educational portal eLektire got a new and modern appearance, five years after it was launched. From now on, the functionalities of eLektire will be adapted even further for users with special needs, and the service has been considerably improved in the technical sense.

The popularity of eLektire is confirmed by the fact that there were 100,000 registered users in February 2015. The availability of literary work in this modern form is a benefit to all CARNet users, especially students studying for the national secondary school leaving examination: 12 books out of 15 from the list for the higher level test for 2015 can be found and downloaded for free at eLektire, and 8 out of 9 for the lower test level.

Another piece of important news is that all literary work is now available in EPUB (in addition to the three previous forms: Web/HTML, PDF and "Flip"), a standard adjusted to reading books on devices such as e-book (e-ink) readers, smart phones and tablets.

The eLektire Project was launched in 2009 on the initiative of, and with support from the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, and it was realised by the Bulaja Foundation and the Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNet. The complete works of Croatian and foreign writers from the list of obligatory school reading and more are available. Access to the contents is free, and it is available to pupils, students, their teachers and professors, who can access the contents by using their electronic identity or by registering.

360 electronic books of Croatian and foreign writers, 115 recorded media and numerous other contents (video, interesting facts...) have been published at the eLektire portal.
