The 2nd Student Day of "Modern Technologies in Education - STO”

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Split hosted on 23 and 24 April 2015 the 2nd Student Day under the title of "Modern Technologies in Education - MTE 2015 (Suvremene tehnologije u obrazovanju - in Croatian)". STO is an event aimed primarily at students of teachers colleges and faculties with teacher training programmes, but it is open to all students interested in the application of technology in education.

The STO Student Day was organised by the Croatian Academic and Research Network - CARNet and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Split as the host and the Croatian Pedagogical and Literary Assembly - branch Split, and the objective was to provide students - future teachers, school teachers, professors, and other interest participants, with insight into the new technology-aided approaches which try to meet the needs of the new generations of students who are digital natives.

The opening ceremony was held on 23 April 2015 within the conference of 10th Primary School Days - Towards a Higher Quality School, and the introductory keynote lectures were held by eminent domestic experts. Mladen Vlašiĉ held a lecture entitled "Innovations in Google", professor Toni Milun held a lecture entitled "Where Math is Fun, 4 Years Later", and Violeta Nikoliĉ, Loredana Zima Krneliĉ, Klara Starkl Crnkoviĉ, Davor Kolariĉ and Tin Zuboviĉ presented the project "iSchool - iPad in teaching".

In addition to interesting lectures and workshops on the topic of teaching and learning in the 21st Century, and the application of ICT in classes, the participants had the chance to see specific examples for teachers' experiences and communicate with innovative teachers who use technology in their everyday work to provide support to course activities with students. 

Within the 2nd STO Student Day, a competition for students was held under the title "Today I am the Teacher". The evaluating team awarded the first place to the work titled "Learning about Health on the Edmodo Social Network via Mobile Devices and Computers" by Maja Brzica. 

The winner was awarded the Galaxy Note tablet on 10 January 2014, and the award was given to her as part of the opening ceremony of the 2nd Student Day of Modern Technologies in Education.

In addition to three plenary lectures on 23 April, 14 workshops were held the following day, three presentations on good practice examples, a presentation of the CARNet Scientix Project and a series of ten demonstrations.

Numerous CARNet partners participated at the event, such as the companies Apple, Microsoft, Samsung and SMART, who also presented their education technologies.
