CARNet Users Conference CUC 2015 – "New-Schools"

The 17th CARNet Users Conference – CUC 2015 – was held from 18 to 20 November 2015 in the hotel Valamar Lacroma in Dubrovnik under the title "New-Schools". The conference was organised by the Croatian Academic and Research Network, CARNet, under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Ms. Kolinda Grabar KitaroviŠ, and the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports and with the support of the City of Dubrovnik. The Conference was attended by more than 820 participants, which makes it one of the largest CARNet Users Conferences so far, and contents from the conference were partially accessible to those not attending the conference via a video stream on CARNet's new Meduza portal.

During the conference, participants could connect by attending one of the six keynote lectures, 23 workshops, more than 30 papers, 13 presentations of sponsors and two round-table discussions.

The programme was also enriched by 10 workshops and presentations of e-School projects, six events and workshops of the Scientix and ISE projects, the final event of the AMORES project, the Webfestival competition of the best personal and professional websites and numerous prize games and competitions organised by CARNet and its sponsors.

The main programme of the conference was divided into five units: Classroom without borders, e-World in teaching, Internet around us, Change Management in e-Schools and Is privacy disappearing in the digital age?. A special programme unit was made up by sys.trek, part of the programme intended for system engineers from CARNet member institutions, which offered 16 presentations and one workshop.

Continuing the tradition, CUC has once again given its participants the chance to hear some of the most respectable experts in the field of information and communication technologies, education and science.

The 2015 CUC Conference was also accompanied by a presentation of several EU projects of CARNet and partners, the most important of which was "e-Schools: Establishing a System for Developing Digitally Mature Schools (pilot project)". Activities from this project were presented on all three days of the conference.

As part of conference, the Webfestival was held for the sixteenth consecutive year, once again awarding the best online content creators. The theme of this year's competition was the best personal and professional websites in education.

As part of the conference, CARNet presented two new services. The first is Libar, CARNet's new online application and service for the production, publication and overview of digital content that can be accessed via user accounts, which is simultaneously a mobile application with all the functionalities of an e-reader.

The other presented service is Meduza. The Meduza is a service for the distribution of multimedia content intended for educational and academic institutions and individual users of the CARNet member institutions.

The official language of the conference was Croatian, and the lectures of the foreign lecturers were held in English.

The CARNet Users Conference – CUC – has become an integral part of the national project "e-Schools: Establishing a System for the Development of Digitally Mature Schools (pilot project)", co-financed by the European Union from European Structural and Investment Funds. The project co-ordinator is the Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNet.
