CARNet Users Conference
The Second CARNet Users Conference was held from 24 to 26 September 2000 at the Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, entitled "Quest for Information" and the motto "Web: Towards Meaningful Content". CUC 2000 dealt with the Internet and especially Web as source of information so that the main topics included: Web publishing, portals, digital libraries, Web design, Web education and search for information. The conference gathered more than 300 participants from Croatia and the world.
About 40 Croatian and foreign speakers participated in the official part of the program. Apart from 2 distinguished invited speakers, Nicky Ferguson (ILRT, Bristol, Great Britain) and Thomas Baker (GMD, Sankt Augustin, Germany), there were also guests from TERENA and RENARDUS projects. There were 2 short courses (tutorials), 4 workshops and 4 round tables held, and about 35 works presented.
As part of the special event, Web festival, the official
jury selected the best Croatian portals in 3 categories - general type
portal, topical portal and portal for the users' interest group. Voting
over the Internet, the audience - CARNet users also awarded their prize.
The conference participants evaluated the quality of the exhibited works
and awarded prizes for the best work and the best presentation at CUC
2000. The Proceedings on CD-ROM was completed at the end of 2000, and
published and distributed during February 2001 together with the announcement
for the third CARNet Users Conference
- CUC 2001.
