Cisco Networking Academy

In co-operation with the Cisco Systems company, CARNet started in November 2000 the Cisco Networking Academy, a unique educational program for networking experts. The program trains attendants to design, develop and maintain computer networks for local, national and global needs of companies and institutions.

The advantages of the program are multiple:

  • the attendants have greater possibilities to get employment,
  • schools get a chance to provide education in the field with great future, and at the same time they get people they need to maintain their internal networks,
  • companies get educated and certified employees,
  • government gets support in the efforts to introduce information technology into schools and at the same time reducing the number of unemployed.

In the world, Cisco Networking Academy started to operate in 1997 with the aim of overcoming the increasing shortage of networking experts and to support universities in maintaining their own networks.

Currently more than 80,000 students are attending the Cisco Networking Academy in 84 countries of the world.

The Academy is intended for everyone older than 16 and especially for secondary school children, undergraduate students and those who are considering changing profession. Training by means of practical work is performed using the latest network communication equipment and personal computers. The backbone of theoretical education consists of multi-media educational material available to attendants via the Internet. After completing the program the attendants can sit for an exam in order to obtain an internationally acknowledged certificate CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate).

The first group of attendants is being trained at CARNet, and an equivalent curriculum is planned at another 12 institutions in Croatia. The first partnership agreements have been signed with the Technical College in Zagreb and Polytechnics in Split.
