CARNet links to other networks
At the beginning of the year 2000 CARNet had 4 links which connected CARNet with other networks: 2 international links and 2 links to networks in Croatia. International links were the link to the USA (link to MCI, 4 Mbps) and the link to Vienna (EBONE, 2x64 kbps = 128 kbps). Links to IP networks in Croatia are those to HT - Croatian Telecommunications (HINET, 2 Mbps) and HRT - Croatian Radio and Television (2 Mbps).
On 21 October 2000 CARNet was connected to the Pan-European research network TEN155. The speed of this link is 34 Mbps, and the configuration is such that 17 Mbps are intended for traffic towards the USA, and the other 17 Mbps for traffic towards Europe.
The number of downtimes of those links and the total duration,
with maximal and average duration of downtimes, as well as the percentage
of time during which the links were available are presented in the following
The overview of the realised CARNet traffic at all links with relation to other networks is presented in the following tables (separate table for TEN155):
Table with data about the total transferred two-ways traffic between CARNet and the world:
Regarding increase in the link speed to other networks the total transferred traffic is substantially greater compared to previous years:
Link to HT (HINET)
Link to HINET is the most important peering currently held by CARNet within Croatia. The CIX project will substantially expand this practice of peers with the Croatian service providers.
Link to HRT
Link to HRT is on the average the least utilised CARNet outer link with the average annual utilisation of 2.5 % in incoming, that is 14.2% outgoing direction.
