CARNet Completed the EU project AMORES

On Friday, 20 November 2015, in Dubrovnik, the Croatian Academic and Research Network, CARNet, and partner organisations presented the results of the EU project AMORES. The most important result of the AMORES project is the curricular methodology that encourages learning about literature through digital creativity and cooperation. The pilot project was successfully carried out with 400 students in Denmark, Croatia, Poland, Sweden and Great Britain. The winners of the international AMORES e-artefacts competition, in which more than sixty competitors from all over Europe participated, were also announced.

During its two years, the AMORES project achieved its primary objective – the advancement of learning about literature across the Europe through a more active engagement of students. With a total budget of about EUR 400,000, this project was carried out with the financial support of the European Commission.

Recent research show that children and young people read very little, between 15 minutes and an hour a day, according to some. Students are often not interested in literature, especially required readings.

The AMORES project shows that the coexistence of books and computers is not only possible, but also uses computing technology to encourage students to learn about literature. The AMORES curricular methodology encourages students to learn about literature through digital creativity and cooperation. Using computers, the students create e-artefacts inspired by literary works, share them with peers via video conferences and social networks and discuss them. The result is a better understanding of literary works and their creative interpretations. Learning about literature is fun, and students increase their digital competences and communication skills. The pilot project for the AMORES methodology of teaching literature was carried out with 400 students in Denmark, Croatia, Poland, Sweden and Great Britain. It has been proven to work not only for teaching literature, but also for other subjects such as history and science.
