\"\"<\/a>CARNET network is a private network of Croatian academic and scientific-research community and institutions from the primary and secondary education system. A part of the network infrastructure is owned by CARNET institution, while the cableways are mostly leased by a number of telecommunications service providers. CARNET network is an example of a Wide Area Network (WAN) through which CARNET members throughout Croatia connect to a compact information and communication unit.<\/p>\n

CARNET network is a data network intended for data transfer using the Transport Control Protocol\/Internet Protocol (TCP\/IP). Currently supported versions of TCP\/IP protocol in CARNET network as its integral part are versions 4 and 6 (IPv4 and IPv6). CARNET enables its members virtual private network services.<\/p>\n

The key feature of each private network is its connection to the global network – the Internet. CARNET network has made this connection through the pan-European research network G\u00c9ANT, at a current connection speed of 100 Gb\/s. G\u00c9ANT network is the result of the initiative of the European Community and the European academy networks association for the establishment of the most technologically advanced computer network linking all European academic and research national networks and linking to the so-called commercial Internet. The link to other Internet service providers in Croatia is realized through the Internet exchange in Croatia – CIX.<\/p>\n

Within Croatia, CARNET network connects larger and smaller Croatian cities at the mainland and a number of places on the islands. Major university centres (Dubrovnik, Osijek, Pula, Rijeka, Slavonski Brod, Split, Vara\u017edin, Zadar, Zagreb) are connected with speed connections ranging from 2 Gb\/s to 100 Gb\/s, while smaller centres are secured at speeds of 1 Gb\/s to 10 Gb\/s. There is an especially advanced infrastructure in Zagreb and Split where faculties and scientific institutions are connected to speeds up to 10 Gb\/s. CARNET network also connects institutions from the primary and secondary education system at access speeds of 4 Mb\/s to 10 Gb\/s. In Rijeka, Zagreb, Split and Pula CARNET connects the locations of the institutions to CARNET network with its own built infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Based on the agreement with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labor and Pension System, Family and Social Policy and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, CARNET connects their locations to CARNET network. CARNET mre\u017ea privatna je mre\u017ea hrvatske akademske i znanstveno-istra\u017eiva\u010dke zajednice i ustanova iz sustava osnovnoga i srednjega \u0161kolstva. Dio mre\u017ene infrastrukture posjeduje CARNET-ova ustanova, a vodove ve\u0107inom unajmljuje od niza davatelja telekomunikacijskih usluga. CARNET mre\u017ea primjer je WAN mre\u017ee (Wide Area Network \u2013 mre\u017ea rasprostranjena na ve\u0107im udaljenostima) kojom se \u010dlanice CARNET-a diljem Hrvatske povezuju u kompaktnu informacijsko-komunikacijsku cjelinu.
CARNET mre\u017ea podatkovna je mre\u017ea namijenjena prijenosu podataka kori\u0161tenjem TCP\/IP protokola (Transport Control Protocol \/ Internet protocol). Trenuta\u010dno podr\u017eane verzije TCP\/IP protokola u CARNET mre\u017ei kao njezinu integralnome dijelu su verzije 4 i 6 (IPv4 i IPv6). CARNET svojim \u010dlanicama omogu\u0107uje usluge virtualnih privatnih mre\u017ea.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Klju\u010dna karakteristika svake privatne mre\u017ee jest njezin spoj prema globalnoj mre\u017ei \u2013 internetu. CARNET mre\u017ea je tu vezu ostvarila kroz sveeuropsku istra\u017eiva\u010dku mre\u017eu G\u00c9ANT, trenuta\u010dnom brzinom veze od 20 Gb\/s. G\u00c9ANT mre\u017ea rezultat je inicijative Europske zajednice i udruge europskih akademskih mre\u017ea za uspostavom tehnolo\u0161ki najnaprednije ra\u010dunalne mre\u017ee koja povezuje sve europske akademske i istra\u017eiva\u010dke nacionalne mre\u017ee te ostvaruje vezu i prema tzv. komercijalnome internetu.
Veza prema drugim davateljima internetske usluge u Hrvatskoj ostvarena je putem mjesta razmjene internetskoga prometa u Hrvatskoj \u2013 CIX.<\/p>

Unutar Hrvatske, CARNET mre\u017ea povezuje ve\u0107e i manje hrvatske gradove na kopnu te niz mjesta na otocima. Ve\u0107i sveu\u010dili\u0161ni centri (Dubrovnik, Osijek, Pula, Rijeka, Slavonski Brod, Split, Zadar, Zagreb) povezani su vezama brzina u rasponu od 500 Mb\/s do 10 Gb\/s, a za manje su centre osigurane veze brzinama od 50 Mb\/s do 1 Gb\/s. Osobito je napredna infrastruktura u Zagrebu i Splitu, u kojima su fakulteti i znanstvene ustanove povezane brzinama do 10 Gb\/s. U CARNET mre\u017eu povezuju se i ustanove iz sustava osnovnoga i srednjega \u0161kolstva pristupnim brzinama od 4 Mb\/s do 1 Gb\/s.
U Rijeci, Zagrebu, Splitu i Puli CARNET svojom vlastitom izgra\u0111enom infrastrukturom povezuje lokacije ustanova u CARNET mre\u017eu.<\/p>
