The implementation of an onsite pilot project, CRISS, as part of the EU Research and Innovation Programme Horizon 2020 began in September 2018 with the goal of developing and implementing digital platforms for the acquisition, assessment, and certification of students' digital competencies.<\/p>\n
Within the project, a platform for personalized learning and teaching of digital competence was developed to provide open and scalable teaching possibilities in the cloud.<\/p>\n
Twenty schools from Croatia are participating in this project, with 7 primary and 13 secondary schools among them. Currently, 1082 students and 80 teachers are involved, and throughout the 2018\/2019 school year, they will test the platform's performance, implement digital competence assessments for their students, and evaluate the results. Teachers will have access to teaching scenarios that will assist them in the overall process of assessing digital competence.<\/p>\n
This online platform enables teachers to enrich their teaching materials with digital content such as videos, pictures, and flexible multimedia presentations. Secondly, it offers them simpler and faster assessment because they can track their students' progress in real time. The CRISS platform supports communication, allowing teachers to communicate with students at any given moment via messages and comments, thus providing feedback on task completion. On the other hand, students can use the platform as a means of perfecting and acquiring digital competence across all subjects in the education system. It offers them various digital tools and multimedia content that they can use to create creative and innovative content.<\/p>\n
The frontrunner in working with the CRISS platform is the Secondary School of Administration from Zagreb, and its informatics teacher Jasmina Kljuni\u0107, who included her second-grade students in the project. From a rich repository, she chose one of the ten offered scenarios \u2013 \u201eMy Internet.\u201c The aim of this scenario was to raise awareness about the safe usage of digital tools and technologies, and the students were asked to work in groups to create their own Internet with the slogan, \u201cCreate, respect, and connect: the better Internet starts with you.\u201d<\/p>\n
CARNET's team of associates on the CRISS project participated in the class and had the opportunity to witness firsthand the application of tools in teaching. Students showed a high level of motivation in working on the platform and its tools, and they showed an interest in the topics they learned about in the Informatics class. The offered scenarios were related to the curriculum and will serve the teacher to further motivate and engage her students. Teaching took place in a friendly and positive atmosphere, and the students made an effort to actively participate in all the activities. During reflection, the teacher emphasized the positive reactions of students to the introduction of new digital tools in teaching and felt it was a fresh approach to teaching. Although Ms. Kljuni\u0107 teaches Informatics, she stated that the platform was intuitive and simple to use and thought that the interdisciplinary approach recommended by the scenarios implied it could be used in other subjects.<\/p>\n
All interested schools are still welcome to apply for the online pilot project and use the platforms in their schools, thus allowing their students to certify digital competence.<\/p>\n
