AISE

The AISE project aims to develop and implement an advanced, AI-based cloud platform that enables the collection, processing, and analysis of unstructured educational data (e.g., essays, questionnaires, homework) with the goal of evaluating student performance and improving teaching processes in secondary education.
Specific project objectives are:
- Develop a requirements analysis and corresponding educational material for assessing student learning skills (and their personal characteristics).
- Design, select, and apply data mining models based on various artificial intelligence technologies.
- Develop and implement a collaborative cloud-based software platform for storing collected student materials.
- On the platform, enable support for multiple users from different countries in their national language.
- Develop a platform as a key tool that can be used in future educational and research projects.
- Develop appropriate services for managing information stored on a software platform.
- Develop platform tools and services in accordance with software standards to enable compliance with technologies available in schools.
- Annotate unstructured educational material to enable proper classification (categorization of results). Annotation will enable the application of a multi-label model to the collected data.
- Apply text mining algorithms and extract the most accurate data model.
- Evaluate the obtained results and integrate the data models with the software platform to enable final evaluation of the developed models and their integration with the platform.
Project duration: from December 16, 2023, to December 15, 2026.

The terms used in this document that have gendered meanings are used neutrally and apply equally to both male and female genders.
The objective and purpose of the public call
The Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNET invites Croatian language teachers who teach students aged 15 to 17 to participate in the AISE project. AISE is an international research project focused on the development and application of artificial intelligence in education, with a special emphasis on the automated evaluation of student essays and the analysis of their content.
The main outcome of the project is a functional AI platform that can analyze and evaluate student essays, and improve teaching processes in the long term.
With this call, we wish to involve teachers who will contribute to the project's implementation through the following tasks:
- Collection of essays for the development of an artificial intelligence system (each teacher should submit at least 15 essays in digital format)
- Essay evaluation and data entry on a digital platform
- Comparison of self-valuation with platform valuation
- Participation in research on the application of artificial intelligence in teaching.
Note:
Participation in the project does not require prior knowledge of artificial intelligence or experience working with AI tools. The project relies on the expertise of teachers in teaching the Croatian language, evaluating student essays, and teaching processes.
Activities to be carried out
- Work package 2 – data collection and AI model development:
- Collecting and submitting essays in digital format
- Adding notes to an essay (annotation) and categorizing essays according to defined criteria
- uploading essays and evaluations into the system according to instructions provided by CARNET
- Work Package 3 – Implementation of Research in Education:
- Testing evaluation quality within the developed model
- Providing feedback to students based on AI model assessments
- Comparison of AI evaluation with teacher evaluation and analysis of results
- filling out a questionnaire about the usefulness and accuracy of AI models
- coordination of questionnaire completion for students who participated in essay writing.
Terms of Application
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- School employees in the Republic of Croatia as educational workers
- They teach the subject Croatian language to students aged 15 to 17.
