About the project
Recognizing the needs of users from the education system related to information and education on the quality and purposeful application of information and communication technology in their work, CARNET launched a project in 2009 called Information and Communication Technology in Education – ICT Edu. The project was carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Education and the Agency for Education.
The project's objective was to develop the digital competence of teaching staff in schools to contribute to the implementation of modern teaching with the application of information and communication technology (ICT). ICT Edu is a modular professional development program for teachers, expert associates, and school principals related to the use of ICT in their work. The priorities are professional development with the greatest possible relevance (according to prior knowledge and duration), purposefulness, and accessibility through practical workshops in computer labs.
The ICT Edu project introduced two major innovations to the teacher education system: standardized training for all educational staff in primary and secondary schools, and the delivery of training in all schools. For the first time, all teachers had the opportunity to receive training without having to travel to regional or national centers, allowing schools and teachers to conduct classes uninterrupted and saving participants travel expenses. This model has been accepted as an excellent form of further teacher training by both the teachers themselves and their principals.
To make it as acceptable as possible for schools, participation in the project has been enabled according to their needs and capabilities. Each individual school had the option to choose content (through modules) and the dynamics of conducting workshops.
