The Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNET manages the national domain of the Republic of Croatia (.hr). All .hr domains are registered in accordance with the Rulebook on the Structure and Management of the Top-Level National Internet Domain.

Domain

Since 1993, CARNET has been managing the national domain of the Republic of Croatia (.hr). The responsibility for this management was assigned to CARNET by the international organization ICANN.Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numberswhich is responsible for managing the global domain name space. All .hr domains are registered in accordance with the Rulebook on the Structure and Management of the Top-Level National Internet Domain.

It is possible to register several types of .hr domains:

.hr secondary domains for free - for legal entities registered in Croatia and individuals operating a registered independent business in Croatia (each user is entitled to only one free domain)
secondary .hr domains as paid – for legal entities with a registered office in an EU member state and individuals who are citizens of an EU member state and possess a personal identification number (OIB) issued by competent authority Republic of Croatia
subdomains at a lower level as free (.from.hr) — for natural persons residing in or having citizenship of the Republic of Croatia, uniquely identifiable by their personal identification number (OIB)
lower-level domains as paid ( .com.hr) – for legal and natural persons

CARNET is the only registrar for free .hr domains, while paid domains are registered through authorized registrars. The basic services that CARNET offers users through the .hr registry include domain registration and administration, but the registry's activities are much broader and also include proposing and implementing the policy for the management of the national domain.
