Under the slogan “Science is fun!”, the sixth Scientific Picnic was held from May 26-28, 2017, organized by the Professor Baltazar NGO, the Green Energy Cooperative (ZEZ), and partners Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNET and the Ruđer Bošković Institute.
From Friday to Sunday, visitors were able to enjoy content from numerous fields at the Jadran Film premises in Dubrava, Zagreb – from natural sciences, medicine, robotics, and 3D printing, to urban sculptures in the field of art. Special attractions for children included visits from the Public Fire Brigade of the City of Zagreb, a special vehicle, and a search and rescue dog from the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, a glider from the Zagreb Aeroclub, and flight simulators organized by the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences.
The event's program partners were the Association of Renewable Energy Sources Croatia, the Croatian Association of Technical Culture, FabLab Croatia, the Institute of Physics, and the Croatian Cluster of Competitiveness of Cultural and Creative Industries. The greatest value of this year's event is the respectable number of primary and secondary schools from all over Croatia that presented themselves as educators at the Science Picnic. This trend is growing year after year – this year there were 25 schools.
This year's Picnic was held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Ms. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, the Ministry of Science and Education, and the City of Zagreb. The Scientific Picnic has been held continuously for six years with the aim of sensitizing the public to the need for Croatia to acquire a Science and Education Entertainment Centre – ZEZ, where visitors could enjoy the offerings of the Scientific Picnic every day.
