National CERT has launched a campaign to raise public awareness on cybersecurity.

February 22, 2019.

CARNET’s National CERT has launched a national campaign “Croatian marks” to raise public awareness of the importance of cybersecurity and encourage responsible use of the internet.

The campaign is part of the project “GrowCERT – Strengthening the capacity of the National CERT and improving cooperation at the national and European level” which is co-financed by the European Commission through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

Today, the internet is used almost every day by everyone, from children to the elderly, but do they know what dangers lurk on this global network and how to protect themselves?

According to available data from the 2017 Eurobarometer survey, citizens’ attitudes towards cybersecurity in Croatia suggest that average users do not care enough about protecting their data, do not think about how they could become victims of cyber-attacks and, therefore, need education. Internet users are self-taught in the online space, just like self-taught Croatian naive painters, and Croatian marks are those who, thanks to their naivety, have become victims of internet fraud and are unfoundedly gullible.

With this campaign, the National CERT wants to encourage citizens to learn how to dispose of their data on the internet and surf the internet without worries. On the naivci.hr website, interested users will be able to get acquainted with the great internet marks, read their stories and become informed about various risky behaviours on the internet, such as using a simple password or not checking the source of information.

In addition to online and TV channels and various promotional materials, the National CERT will organise training for the business community and members of the academic network in March.
