The "Classroom of the Future" project in Croatia, which has already included Kamešnica Elementary School in Otok, II. Elementary School Bjelovar, Antun and Stjepan Radić Elementary School in Gunja, Popovača Elementary School, Fran Galović Gymnasium in Koprivnica, and IX. Gymnasium Zagreb, has now been joined by Horvati Elementary School in Zagreb. The seventh Classroom of the Future in Croatia, opened on April 1, 2016, will enable interactive learning supported by the latest information technologies for 300 students of this Zagreb elementary school.
The project by the Croatian Academic and Research Network CARNet and Samsung Electronics, with the support of the Ministry of Science, Education, and Sport, aims to provide access to advanced information technologies to all students and help bridge the digital divide.
The classroom of the future at Horvati Elementary School follows a proven global practice that CARNet and Samsung have implemented in Croatia in collaboration with partners. It offers a teacher's computer, tablet computers, and a smart board, enabling interactive knowledge exchange for all students. Teachers can quickly share information and lecture notes, and have immediate insight into students„ understanding of a particular lecture. Content can be shared on the interactive smart board and sent to students“ tablets with just a few clicks. Students and teachers will simultaneously take lecture notes, highlight key information, or draw on both their tablet computers and the smart board. Teachers can quickly check if students understand the lecture through short quizzes, surveys, and discussions.
Osnovna škola Horvati has a rich history and a long tradition. Founded in 1897, this academic year it has 300 students. The school promotes the use of ICT technologies in teaching and all forms of international cooperation, through video conferences, Comenius and Erasmus+ projects, the "This is our time" project, the GLOBE program, among many other activities, and collaborates with schools from Europe, Asia, the USA, and Canada. This school is also recognizable for its inclusion of children with motor difficulties. Over the years, an exceptionally high-quality professional base has been created, which can serve as a support center for other schools with its knowledge and experience in achieving higher quality inclusive education.
