On February 9, 2016, World Safer Internet Day was celebrated in Split, with the aim of raising awareness among children and young people about potential abuse and violence, and the safe use of the Internet. The event was organized by the Croatian Network Regulatory Agency (HAKOM) in cooperation with the Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNet and other partners.
At a gathering attended by several hundred students, their teachers, and parents, numerous workshops and lectures were held with the aim of educating and promoting the responsible and safe use of the Internet and mobile devices. Mr. Marin Stanić from CARNet gave a lecture on the safe use of Facebook, emphasizing that children need to be educated and taught how to protect their own and others' data.
Safer Internet Day is celebrated worldwide and in Croatia every year on the second Tuesday of February.
