Guidelines for the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education Published

April 22, 2026.

Guidelines for the responsible and pedagogically sound application of artificial intelligence in primary and secondary education in Croatia have been published, providing teachers and other stakeholders in the education system with a framework for the safe, ethical, and purposeful integration of AI technologies into teaching.

The guidelines were created within CARNET's BrAIn project, in collaboration with the Croatian Catholic University and the Commission for the Ethical Application of Digital Technologies. They are based on the results of pilot research conducted during 2024/2025, as well as on existing European and international policies in the field of artificial intelligence.

The emphasis is on maintaining a critical approach, respecting ethical principles, and ensuring continuous human oversight when using AI tools in education. The guidelines provide concrete recommendations for teachers, aiming to improve teaching and develop students' digital competencies and critical thinking skills.

It is a “living document” that will be regularly updated in accordance with technological developments and new knowledge, and it also represents the basis for the implementation of the curriculum.“Artificial Intelligence: From Concept to Application”within the BrAIn project.
