Practitioners of the e-Schools pilot project in a study visit to the Vežica primary school in Rijeka

23. March 2017.

Thirty members of the community of practitioners in the CARNet e-Schools pilot project: Establishing a System for Developing Digitally Mature Schools visited the Vežice Primary School in Rijeka, the first primary school in Croatia and the second public school in Europe which enabled its students to participate on all subject classes by using tablet computers.

In the last couple of years, or more precisely, from the school year 2012/2013, this primary school from Rijeka has been conducting its iSchool project within which the teachers and the students of the 8th grades have been equipped with tablets for learning. Already in the course of the second year of the project implementation the students of the 5th and 6th grades were enabled to continue the education with the tablets, according to their parents’ wishes.

The Vežica primary school principal, Violeta Nikolić, and the teachers (Tina Zubović, Ksenija Laleta-Puž, Klara Starkl Crnković, Loredana Zima Krnelić, Davor Kolarić, Bosiljka Jelača, Vedran Gergorić, Mirela Babić and Snježana Mervcich) shared with the visitors their experiences in the application of the ITC technologies in classes and held several lectures on the subject of digital competences of teachers and possibilities of the use of technology in teaching of each subject. The study visit included the tour of the school and presence in the teaching lesson conducted with the use of ICT, and was concluded with a round table for all participants.

The Vežica primary school strives to completely change the former working method and start a new era in education of students by introduction of new technologies It was therefore natural that the school joined in the CARNet’s national pilot e-Schools project in order to further strengthen the capacities of its teacher and enable them to use ICT in classes in a wider extent.

Projekt je sufinancirala Europska unija iz europskih strukturnih i investicijskih fondova.
