On Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the University of Osijek, a plaque was awarded to the 100,000th user of CARNet's distance learning system – Loomen. The title of the 100,000th user was given to Jelena Vuković, a student from the Department of Culturology, and she was awarded a CARNet plaque on this occasion.
The head of the Department of Culturology, Asst. Prof. PhD Ivana Žužul, and Asst. Prof. PhD Željko Pavić, deputy head of the department, attended the ceremony. The plaque was presented by employees of the CARNet Osijek hub's Educational Support Department, who also took the opportunity to provide feedback on the system's quality, ways to improve the service, and the possibility of adding additional courses to the Loomen system.
Loomen System It is based on the open-source tool for creating e-learning content and distance learning – Moodle, and has been used in CARNet since 2008, when it replaced a commercial tool. From the very beginning, users have well accepted the system, and its significant growth in the number of users and courses has been evident in recent years. The user structure is slightly higher for primary and secondary schools, while there are fewer users from the higher education system.
Teaching staff from the AAI@Edu.hr system have access to the service of creating blank courses, using ready-made content that can be implemented in teaching, training, and user support. Some of the content available in Open Courses is accessible to all interested users, as well as the massive open online course Moodle MOOC, which is organized twice a year.
