As part of Inspiring Science Education (ISE) project, the Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNet is organizing a webinar Measuring the Earth's circumference with Eratosthenes' experiment - simple and modern! Intended for physics, geography, and mathematics teachers, but also for anyone else interested in conducting the Eratosthenes experiment.
The webinar will be held on Monday, March 7th, starting at 1 PM via the Adobe Connect communication and collaboration tool at the address http://connect.carnet.hr/webinar/. To enter the virtual room, select the 'Guest' option and enter your name.
The topic of this webinar is contemporary, practical, and research-based teaching for which a simple stick and a measuring tape are sufficient. That's all that's needed to conduct Eratosthenes' experiment, which measures the Earth's circumference. Sounds impossible? Participants in the experiment will be convinced that it's not impossible, and as an introduction to the experiment, CARNet is organizing a webinar where participants will be introduced to the steps for participation and simple e-tools for its implementation. This experiment can also be conducted with so-called ISE learning scenarios, which are a kind of preparation for a lesson that also serves as teaching material, and will also be presented at the webinar. Participants will also learn about the competitions accompanying the experiment, which will take the luckiest and most creative participants to professional development at the ISE summer school in Greece.
The Inspiring Science Education (ISE) project is co-financed by the European Union from the Support Programme for ICT Policy Uptake, as part of the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP ICT PSP).
