This year's Forum will be held in Opatija on May 25th, as part of the international ICT conference MIPRO.
As part of the 46th International ICT Convention MIPRO 2023, traditionally held in Opatija, the 6th Croatian Internet Governance Forum english. Croatian Internet Governance Forum, CRO-IGF). This year's 6th edition of CRO-IGF will have two central themes. The first is the entry into force of the Digital Services Act, and the second is the Global Digital Compact.Global Digital Compact, GDCwhich should be agreed upon at the Summit of the Future in September 2024.
The Internet Governance Forum is a global initiative operating under the auspices of the UN with the aim of bringing together all interested stakeholders to discuss issues important for Internet governance. The initiative was established in 2006 at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). World Summit on the Information Society, WSIS) in Tunis, by decision of the UN Secretary-General as an open platform for discussions. The immediate motivation for this decision was the need to include a broader community in discussions on internet governance and regulation, given that it was recognized that topics related to internet governance extend beyond IP address space, internet protocols, and domains. The need to include other stakeholders, such as representatives of civil society, academia, industry, and the private sector, in the discussions alongside state representatives was also observed. The Croatian national IGF was established in 2015.
