CRISS

In January 2017, CRISS began (Demonstration of a scalable and cost-effective cloud-based digital learning infrastructure through the Certification of digital competences in primary and secondary schools) a project from the European Union's Horizon 2020 program.

The purpose of the CRISS project was the development and pilot implementation of a digital platform for acquiring, evaluating, and certifying the digital competencies of primary and secondary school students.

The CRISS platform was tested through a large-scale pilot involving over 490 schools, including 25,400 students and 2,290 teachers across several European countries.

Croatian students and teachers had the opportunity to participate in the project through CARNET, which is a partner on the CRISS project responsible for piloting the CRISS digital competence model and platform in Croatia. As many as 1,000 Croatian students and 60 teachers from a total of 20 schools were involved in the pilot project, which took place during the 2018/2019 school year. Croatian students and their teachers are using the CRISS platform in teaching activities across various subjects, developing and evaluating their digital competencies.

The first year of the CRISS project was dedicated to the development of a theoretical model for acquiring students' digital competencies and the development of the CRISS platform. CARNET participated in the development of the CRISS theoretical model, which was led by Open University of Catalonia  (UOC, Open University of Catalonia), established in 1994 as one of the world's first higher education institutions to offer educational programs that were entirely online. Today, UOC has more than 50,000 students from all over the world, while maintaining its status as a technologically advanced institution with an innovative teaching method.

The CRISS project started on January 1, 2017, and lasted until December 31, 2019. The total value of the project is approximately 6 million euros, of which the European Commission financed up to 4.87 million euros. The coordinator of the CRISS project was the British company EXUS Software LTD, and a total of 14 partners participated in the project, including public institutions, non-profit organizations, universities, and small, medium, and large enterprises.

Project activities can currently be tracked via Twitter and official websites CRISS project where all information is available. CARNET will inform all users and other interested parties about the project in a timely manner.
