Public call to higher education institutions to participate in the pilot implementation of the Maltrail network monitoring system

Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNET within the project e-University The pilot implementation of the Maltrail system is being launched at selected higher education institutions in the Republic of Croatia.

Maltrail is an open-source system for network traffic monitoring that recognizes threats based on known malicious domain and IP address signatures, traffic anomalies, and other indicators of compromise. More information is available at the link: https://github.com/stamparm/maltrail.

The goal of the initiative is to increase the level of network security through real-time detection of potentially malicious activities, with minimal hardware requirements.

In this pilot, two institutions will be selected; one that operates at multiple geographically dispersed locations and one that operates exclusively at a single location.

Login method

The application form requires a brief description of the network infrastructure and a statement from the responsible person regarding their willingness to participate in the project. Applications should be submitted to the email address toni.vugdelija@carnet.hr.

Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.

Duration of the public call

Applications for the public call can be submitted November 7, 2025 at 11:59 PM.

The selection decision will be published on the CARNET website.
