AISE

The AISE project aims to develop and implement an advanced AI-empowered cloud-based platform, designed to collect, process, and analyse unstructured educational data (e.g. essays, questionnaires, homework assignments) with the goal of assessing students’ performance skills and enhancing teaching practices in secondary education.

Specific project objectives are:

  • Conduct requirement analysis and develop appropriate educational material to assess high-school students’ learning skills (and personality traits).
  • Design, select, and apply data‑mining models based on various AI technologies.
  • Develop and deploy a collaborative cloud‑based software platform for registering all materials collected from the students.
  • Enable multilingual support on the platform to accommodate the national languages of users from different countries.
  • Position the platform as a transformative tool to be used use in future educational and research initiatives.
  • Develop appropriate services for managing information stored on the software platform.
  • Develop platform tools and services in line with software standards to ensure the interoperability of all existing web-related schools technologies.
  • Annotate the unstructured educational material to enable appropriate classification (categorization) of results—facilitating the application of multi‑label models on the collected data.
  • Apply text‑mining algorithms to deduce the most accurate data model.
  • Evaluate results and integrate data models with the software platform to allow for the final evaluation of the developed models and their integration with the platform.

Project duration: from 16 December 2023 to 15 December 2026.

Full project title: “An artificial intelligent platform to support students by assessing their performance skills through predictive models created from their writing skills”.

Project coordinator: “Diefthinsi Defterovathmias Ekpedefsis Nomou Prevezas – DDE Prevezas”, Greece

Public Call

Public Call for Croatian Language Teachers to Participate in the AISE Project

All gendered expressions used in this call should be considered as gender-neutral and apply equally to all genders.

Goal and purpose of the Public Call

Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNET invites Croatian language teachers who teach students aged 15 to 17 to participate in the AISE project. AISE is an international research initiative focused on developing and applying artificial intelligence in education, with a particular emphasis on automated assessment of student essays and the analysis of their content.

The main goal of the project is a fully functional AI platform capable of analyzing and assessing student essays, with potential to enhance teaching practices in the long term.

With this call we aim to include teachers who will contribute to the implementation of the project through the following tasks:

  • Collect essays for the development of the AI system (each teacher is required to submit at least 15 essays in digital format).
  • Evaluate student essays and register data into the digital platform.
  • Compare their own evaluations with the evaluations performed by the platform.
  • Participate in the research on the application of artificial intelligence in teaching practices.

Important note:

Participation in the project does not require prior knowledge about artificial intelligence or experience with AI tools. The project primarily calls upon the expertise of teachers in teaching Croatian language, essay evaluation, and educational processes.

Planned project activities:

  • Work Package 2 – Datasets Requirements and Artificial Intelligent Models:

    • Collect and submit essays in a digital format.

    • Annotate each essay and categorize essays according to predefined criteria.

    • Register essays and their evaluations onto the platform following the instructions provided by CARNET

  •

Work Package 3 – Implementation of the Educational Study:

    • Validate the quality of evaluation produced by the developed AI model.
    • Give feedback to students based on the assessment produced by the AI model.
    • Compare AI-based assessments with teacher evaluations and analyze results.
    • Complete questionnaires evaluating the usefulness and accuracy of the AI model.
    • Coordinate questionnaire distribution among students who participated in essay writing.

Eligibility Criteria:

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Employed as an educational worker in a school in the Republic of Croatia.
  • Teach Croatian language to students between the ages of 15 and 17.

How to apply:

Candidates must fill in the application form on this link, demonstrating that they meet the eligibility criteria.

The form must include a signed consent document from the school principal confirming school’s participation in the project, available for download following this link.

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Selection Procedure:

The evaluation of minimum requirements is conducted by an Expert Committee composed of representatives from CARNET, appointed by the CARNET’s CEO. The Expert Committee reviews each application and submits a joint report to the CEO regarding the fulfilment of minimum requirements and the overall evaluation.

The selection decision will be published on CARNET’s website. Selected candidates will be informed by the selection announcement, which will also include details on signing a piece-work contract and on the commencement of their engagement.

Meeting the minimum requirements is mandatory for application and evaluated by all committee members with YES (meets) or NO (does not meet).

Priority will be given to those candidates who applied earliest to the Call.

Benefits of Participating in the Project:

  • Financial compensation proportional to the contribution to the project
  • Hands-on experience with cutting‑edge AI tools
  • Participation in international projects with tangible contribution to their realization (a certificate for the purposes of professional advancement will be issued)
  • Development of professional competencies in an interdisciplinary and dynamic environment

Financial compensation:

For carrying out the tasks under this Call, the selected teachers will receive an appropriate financial compensation based on the piece-work contract.

Duration of the Public Call:

The call is open from 3 April 2025 to 16 April 2025, until 23:59.

All selected candidates will be notified about the results of the selection by 21 April 2025, marking the beginning of the participation in the project.
