CARNET Projects

In addition to participating in EU programmes and projects, CARNET is also getting involved in numerous projects with other institutions and companies, in accordance with its vision and mission, in order to achieve its strategic goals.


  • ProMikro — a project launched by CARNET in cooperation with the Institute for Youth Development and Innovativity – IRIM, supported by the Ministry of Science and Education; its goal is to introduce an algorithmic way of thinking and a problem-based approach to various school subjects and extracurricular activities, through the use of microcomputers, in accordance with the objective of the Strategy of Education, Science and Technology: Expanding and improving the use of information and communication technology in learning and education.


  • Microsoft Wi-Fi Network in Schools — a Microsoft project, in which Croatia, the Croatian Academic and Research Network (CARNET) and the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports also participated and which resulted in connecting 50 primary and secondary schools — that is, 30 primary and 20 secondary schools — from all over Croatia via a Wi-Fi network.


  • eSkills - a European Commission initiative directly stimulated by most recent analytical estimates that by the end of 2015 there will be a shortage of as many as 900,000 ICT experts in the EU, caused by an increasing interest of young people in engineering professions
  • E-Learning Academy — from 2004 to 2014 CARNET implemented a training programme for e-learning experts under the title "E-Learning Academy". The programme was the result of cooperation between CARNET and the University of British Columbia in Canada, and was completed by 11 generations, i.e. 543 attendants. In the desire to raise the e-learning programme, as well as the knowledge and skills, to a higher, university level, CARNET began talks with the University of Zagreb on initiating an e-learning university course. For this reason, the programme is no longer conducted in CARNET.


  • – a project of the Ministry of Science and Education initiated in order to establish a procedure for the application to and enrolment in secondary schools by electronic means, during which the National Information System for Applications and Enrolments into Secondary Schools was set up
  • Classroom of the future - a joint project of CARNET and the company Samsung Electronics Adriatic realised with the support of the Ministry of Science and Education, which aims to equip schools with classrooms of the future, allowing students of these schools to have the possibility to learn interactively with the aid of state of the art information technologies


  • School 2.0 - a CARNET project aimed at enabling high-quality and comprehensive distance learning and e-learning for as great a number of users as possible – teachers and students; 26 Croatian schools are involved in the project, and in June of 2013 it was selected as one of the three most innovative initiatives as part of the European Prize for Innovation in Public Administration, in the category Initiatives for research and education
  • Safer Internet Centre - established with the signing of a Strategic Partnership Agreement by the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Administration, CARNET, the Technical Polytechnic In Zagreb, the Croatian Personal Data Protection Agency, the Polyclinic for the Protection of Children of the City of Zagreb and the Partners in Learning association; one of the primary objectives of the Safer Internet Centre is the joint promotion of computer and information security and safety in the Republic of Croatia


  • e-Class Register - The e-Class Register is a web application for the management of the class register in electronic form, which began as a pilot project at the beginning of the 2011/2012 school year in three Croatian secondary schools. This application was developed by CARNET and it has all functionalities of existing paper class registers with some additional functionality that provides use of ICT technologies. 


  • National secondary school leaving examination – a project of the Ministry of Science and Education, established by the National information system for applications to higher education institutions; in early July of 2010 the certificates for the intention of enrolling at faculties according to registered degree programs began
