On Wednesday, March 9, 2016, the 100,000th user of CARNet's distance learning system, Loomen, was awarded a plaque at the University of Osijek. The title of 100,000th user was bestowed upon Jelena Vuković, a student of the Department of Cultural Studies, who received a CARNet plaque on this occasion.
The award ceremony was attended by the Head of Department for Cultural Studies Ivana Žužul, Ph.D., and Deputy Head of Department Željko Pavić, Ph.D. The plaque was presented by employees of the Education Support Department of the CARNet hub in Osijek, who also took this opportunity to gather feedback on system quality, ways to improve services, and the possibility of incorporating additional courses into the Loomen system.
The Loom system is based on an open software tool for creating electronic educational content and distance learning – Moodle, and it has been used in CARNet since 2008 when it replaced a commercial tool. From the very beginning, the system has been well-accepted by users, and a significant increase in the number of users and courses has been visible over the last several years. Elementary and secondary schools make up a slightly higher percentage of the user base, while the higher education system accounts for a slightly lower number of users.
