On Wednesday, 09 March 2016, at the University of Osijek, the 100 000th user of the CARNet system for long-distance learning – Loomen – was awarded with a plaque. The title of 100 000th user was awarded to Jelena Vuković, a student of the Department of Cultural Studies, and on this occasion, she received a CARNet plaque.
The award ceremony was attended by the Head of Department for Cultural Studies Ivana Žužul, Ph.D. and Deputy Head of Department Željko Pavić, Ph.D. The plaque was presented by the employees of the Education Support Department of the CARNet hub in Osijek, who also took this opportunity to obtain feedback on system quality, ways of improving the service and the possibilities of incorporating additional courses in the Loomen system.
The Loomen system is based on an open software tool for the creation of electronic educational content and long-distance learning – Moodle, and it has been used in CARNet since 2008 when it replaced a commercial tool. From the very beginning, the system has been well-accepted by the users and a significant increase in the number of users and courses has been visible over the last several years. A somewhat higher percentage of the user structure consists of elementary and secondary schools, while a somewhat lower number of users come from the higher education system.
